Native American nod.

I have always had a fondness for everything Native American, and started collecting Navajo rugs in the early 1980's.
This quilt is made entirely of Japanese fabrics, some woven Daiwabo, all 100% cotton. The cross on the middle is a loosely woven hand dyed textile, and I chose to leave some of the selvedges exposed.
The backing is from Denyse Schmidt's Hope Valley line.

Quilting double time.

My niece is putting me to the test. I like to think I am prolific, but my Becky had twins- 5 weeks ahead of schedule- and I need to make them quilts before our visit on Saturday. I decided to feature a black and white original photo printed on fabric to be the focal point, and to disperse color here and there among Sis Boom black and white prints.
Owen will get the deer in the woods with primary colors.
Chloe will get a sea shell with various shades of pink and white.
One down, one to go.
Quilting to be completed tomorrow- ready for a ride up to Providence , RI by the weekend!

I busted my butt to get these quilts finished so they could be delivered by Christmas, only to find out they cannot accept them unless laundered. So, now it is two days after Christmas, I'm snowed in and I have them freshly washed. They do always look better once they have been washed anyway, and they saw them and know they are coming. Once the roads are clear, they will go back to Bridgeport. I think they look amazing.

He's at it again.

Whenever I go to document my completed custom ordered quilt and pillows. Ollie is always ready for a photo op. Honestly, what would I do without him?

Posh pillow.

Our friend and Tim's super talented vocalist for Acoustic Wilton, Kim Troy, needed a pillow for her friend who evidently needs encouragement to do certain things and take chances. These are the words that Kim finds her self repeating on a daily basis, and thought a little reminder when she's not around wouldn't hurt.
"Just say yes!"
Her friend loved it, especially the black patent leather piping. She thought it would look great in her bedroom, but after reading it again, decided it might not be such a good idea! Looks like the living room will be it's new home.

Quilt Haiti

We are holding a quilting bee of sorts at Make and Mingle. This will be a collaborative effort for all who attend. Jennifer Paganelli will be there to sew along with all of us as we each make a block or two with Sis Boom scraps that will then be pieced together, quilted, and sent off to Haiti. The wonderful blogger, Tammy Gilley, has started this quilt drive and quilters from all over the world have been sending their love to those in need. I can't think of a better way to spend the last Sunday afternoon in March. Please come to Make and Mingle and join us if you can.

A quilt a day- or there abouts.

I am in the throws of getting ready for my new Go Make Your Bed website. The blog is still around, but has been laying dormant over the winter months. I have been so busy here at DHFD with my crafting and getting the Open Sky shop up and running, poor little GMYB took the back seat for a while.
I am creating a ready made line, and also a design wall where you can go to choose the fabrics of your liking. Everything to Go Make Your Bed! Everything you need to know about ordering will be clearly explained on the site, and a FAQ page. But rest assured, I am always just a phone call or email away if you have any questions or need suggestions. In fact, I prefer to speak directly about the order before I start cutting.
The quilts pictured are all made with the new Sis Boom line, So St. Croix, and I will keep posting pictures as the come off of my sewing table. The whole collection will be very varied, so be sure to check back and see what's new.
Also, I will quilt with your fabric for a fee if you get it to me.

Cleansing my palette.

I'm getting ready for the next wave of sewing, color, fabrics and making by clearing out my head a bit. I've been working with white, black, and neutrals and plan on slowly introducing color back in. A "visual fasting" if you will. "Sensual deprivation". I wonder which color I will crave first.
Black and white quilted pillows, and a quilted throw and pillow made with Ralph Lauren nautical blueprint fabric, bound with ticking. Simple choices, simply stunning.

Cookie and Lucky- here we come!

I was able to get appointments with the editors of COOKIE and LUCKY magazines to see if they would want to feature any of my inventory. Tim, my husband, was nice enough to drive Trigger and me into the big apple- those quilts are heavy! Who knows what may come of those meetings... fingers crossed! I look a bit like our dog, Cheech, when we take him for a ride.
