This is a commissioned quilt for a lovely girl, Paula Sexton, in Lubbock,Texas. The "mane" subject is her mare, Lucy, and the only direction she gave me was to think "fall colors and sunflowers". It's not easy choosing fabrics and designing for someone else. Each decision takes about 10 times longer, than if you were making it for yourself. This is what I came up with, and I hope she likes it!

I know exactly what you mean about picking colors for someone else....I think it is more like 20 times longer. The quilt is stunning! What a lucky girl :)

Nancy, You are getting this to me just in time for my 5 year anniversery with Lucy. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful work of art! I forwarded your link to all my friends. The road/path design that you included feel so right, so symbolic for the past 5 years that I have spent with my sweet mare. You have captured the essence of Lucy in this quilt. Love, Paula

I am so happy to have found your blog thru J. P.'s link...my daughter loves anything horses and I love anything sewing related and really like all of the Sis Boom/Bell Bottom, etc looks! I am trying to find inspiration for my sewing room...I want to decorate using some of these fabrics. Great job on the quilts! I hope to make my dd a horse themed one this summer. I design children's clothing. Have a great day!
